York Catholic students enjoyed a week filled with suspense and special events. Student Council introduced new and innovative themes which included new spirit week ideas, a powderpuff football game, a bonfire, and Gaelic Quest relay races. Each event received positive reports from the student body. The scheduled themes for spirit week included America Monday, Team Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Tropical Thursday, and Green and Gold Friday. On Thursday, teachers and students assembled on the bleachers to watch an intense game between female students versus teachers. In the aftermath, the students took the win. The bonfire, being a new event to YC attracted almost half the student body. Leading up to the fire, relay races were held representing each of the sports teams at York Catholic. On Friday, York Catholic faced Delone Catholic in a budding rivalry for their homecoming night. Although they had the lead in the first half, Delone battled back, rapidly scoring two touchdowns in a span of six minutes. With the score now 23-24, York Catholic’s Dan Yokemick led the offense down the field, finding Luke Brennan for a 55 yard completion for a touchdown. In addition, Yokemick also picked off a pass from Delone Catholic’s Dylan Hartlaub to seal the game for the Irish. What a great end to Spirit Week!
